Events that took place on this day in history 24 November

*In 1941,
British army attacked an invasion on Libya despite the unfavourable odds with 2 divisions of whom the 4th Indian division was extremely deadly. The Italians were pushed back to the north of Africa known as the battle of Sidi Barani.
The Eighth Army launched a surprise attack on 18th November. The Indian forces attacks led them to a loss of 530 tanks. By 23rd November, the African Brigade was completely destroyed and Rommel the commander of the German-Italian forces ordered the 'dash the wire' on 24th November.

*In 1969,
Apollo 12 was the sixth crewed flight in the United States Apollo program and the second to land on the Moon. It was launched on November 14, 1969, from the Kennedy Space Center, Florida. Commander Charles "Pete" Conrad and Lunar Module Pilot Alan L. Bean performed just over one day and seven hours of lunar surface activity while Command Module Pilot Richard F. Gordon remained in lunar orbit.

Rajanikanta Bordoloi
was a noted writer, journalist and tea planter from Assam, India. Some critics called him the Walter Scott of Assam.He was President of the Asam Sahitya Sabha in 1925 which was held at Nagaon
He was a regular contributor to many leading magazines in that period such as Junaki, Banhi, Usha, Assam Hitoishi and Awahon. He also edited a monthly magazine called Pradipika.

*In 1961,
Suzanna Arundhati Roy is an Indian author best known for her novel The God of Small Things, which won the Man Booker Prize for Fiction in 1997 and became the best-selling book by a non-expatriate Indian author. She is also a political activist involved in human rights and environmental causes.

Jamuna Barua  was a leading Indian actress. As destiny would have it, Jamuna came to reside in Calcutta, a leading film producing city in India. Originally from Gauripur of Assam's Goalpara district (undivided), Jamuna was married to the legendary actor director Pramathesh Barua, or P.C. Barua, who died in 1950. She began her acting career in her husband's famous production  Devdas in 1936 and was the film's lead character Parvati or Paro.

*In 2008,
Havildar Peter Thangaraj (24 December 1935 – 24 November 2008) was an Indian football player and a Non Commissioned Officer (NCO) in Indian Army. Thangaraj played for the Indian national side at the 1956 Melbourne and 1960 Rome Olympics. He was voted Asia's best goalkeeper in 1958.
