International Students’ Day is an international observance of the student community, held annually on November 17. Originally commemorating the Nazi storming of Czech universities in 1939 and the subsequent killing and sending of students to concentration camps, it is now marked by a number of universities, sometimes on a day other than November 17, as a nonpolitical celebration of the multiculturalism of their international students.

National Epilepsy Day

In India, November 17 is observed every year as National Epilepsy Day to create awareness about epilepsy.  Epilepsy is a chronic disorder of brain characterized by recurrent ‘seizures’ or ‘fits’. The seizures are caused as a result of sudden, excessive electrical discharges in the neurons (brain cells).   The condition can affect people at any age and each age group has unique concerns and problems

Reita Faria Powell is an Indian physician, former model and the winner of the Miss World 1966 contest. Born in Bombay to Goan parents, making her the first Asian woman to win the beauty contest. She is also the first Miss World winner to be qualified as a physician.

Babur entered here for the fifth time through Sindh with the aim of conquering India.

Dr. Tapan Kumar Chand is an Indian mining veteran, executive, and author. He is the Resident Director of Vedanta Limited. He was the chairman cum managing director of National Aluminium Company. NALCO is the largest integrated aluminium unit in Asia and is also one of the largest aluminium complexes of the world.

*In 1959,
Rekha Surya, Hindustani light classical singer.
Rekha Surya was born in Lucknow to Inder Prakash Sur and Chand Sur. The couple migrated from Lahore to Lucknow during partition. Rekha Surya is a Karamveer Noble Laureate for 2012-13 under the category "Artistes 4 Change."

Lala Lajpat Rai was an Indian independence activist. He played a pivotal role in the Indian Independence movement. He was popularly known as Punjab Kesari. He died a few weeks after sustaining severe injuries during a baton charge by police when he led a peaceful protest march against the all-British Simon Commission, a commission constituted by the United Kingdom for Indian constitutional reform.

Akshaya Mohanty, also known as Khoka Bhai, was an Indian singer, lyricist, composer, musician and writer in Odia. He has contributed Odia bhajans, Odissi songs, folk songs, film and non-film modern light songs in Odisha on contemporary themes and ballads based on popular legends in Odisha.
