World Health Organization announces first global effort to combat AIDS.On this day in 1986, The World Health Organization (WHO) announced today that it had begun the first coordinated global effort to combat AIDS, a disease it described as ''a health disaster of pandemic proportions.''

*In 2015,
More than half of all trees in Amazon forest at risk of extinction according to data published in journal “Sciences Advances”.More than half the myriad tree species in the Amazon could be heading for extinction, according to a study that makes the first comprehensive estimate of threatened species in the world’s largest rainforest. Among the species expected to suffer significant falls in numbers are the Brazil nut, and wild cacao and açai trees, all important food sources.

Sri Shilpi Siddanthi Siddalinga Swami, was a Royal Guru of Mysore State and Personal Guru of Maharaja Jayachamarajendra Wadiyar of Mysore. He was also prominent painter, sculptor, architect and writer, known for his contribution to Mysore painting and Architecture.

Hirābai Barodekar was an Indian Hindustāni classical music singer, of Kirana gharana. She was disciple of Ustād Abdul Wahid Khān.
Hirabai was born as Champākali to Kirānā Gharānā master Ustād Abdul Karim Khān and Tārābāi Māne. Tarabai was the daughter of Sardār Māruti Rāo Māne, a brother of princely Barodā state's "Rajmātā" during the middle of the 19th century. Abdul Karim Khan was the court musician in Baroda when Tarabai was young, and he taught her music. 

*In 2010,
Santha Devi was an Indian Malayalam film and stage actress.Santha Devi was born in Kozhikode in a then well known tharavadu called Thottathil in 1927 as the daughter of Thottathil Kannakkuruppu and Karthiyayani Amma as the seventh daughter of their 10 children. She did her studies from Sabha school and then B.E.M school.
