*In 1966,
NASA launches spaceship Gemini 12.
Gemini XII marked a successful conclusion of the Gemini program, achieving the last of its goals by successfully demonstrating that astronauts can effectively work outside of spacecraft. This was instrumental in paving the way for the Apollo program to achieve its goal of landing a man on the Moon by the end of the 1960s.

*In 1988,
A fossil of a primitive insect found in Canada and described in 1988 was dated at about 390 million years, but some scientists now believe it is a younger fossil that got mixed in far older material. In any case, Grimaldi said his latest fossil is between about 396 million and 407 million years old.

*In 1943,
Anil Kakodkar is an Indian nuclear physicist and mechanical engineer. He was the chairman of the Atomic Energy Commission of India and the Secretary to the Government of India, he was the Director of the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Trombay from 1996–2000.

Kuppali Venkatappa Puttappa, popularly known by his pen name Kuvempu kuu-VEM-poo, was an Indian poet, playwright, novelist and critic. He is widely regarded as the greatest Kannada poet of the 20th century. He was the first Kannada writer to receive the Jnanpith Award. 

*In 2005,
Murugappa Channaveerappa Modi was the pioneer of mass eye surgery in India. He being an Ayurvedic surgeon The Guinness Book of World Records lists Modi as the "most dedicated doctor," for performing the highest number of eye surgeries. He performed as many as 833 cataract operations in one day. He visited 46,120 villages and 12,118,630 patients, and performed a total of 610,564 operations to February 1993.

NATIONAL EDUCATION DAY

India marks National Education Day on November 11 to memorialize the birthday of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, the first Minister for Education in India. Maulana Abul Kalam Azad’s exemplary contributions to the field of education and institution building paved the way for the country’s modern system. Reputed as the main architect of education, he served as India’s first Vice President as well as the first education Minister from 1947 to 1958. Now, all educational institutions in the country mark the day with seminars, essay-writing, workshops and rallies with slogans on the importance of literacy and India’s commitment to education.
