*In 1952,
Inauguration of Sindri Fertilizer Factory which was the first Government owned company. It came into being in December 1951 as the first Public Sector Company in India. In his inauguration speech, Jawahar Lal Nehru said that he was inaugurating a temple of modern India. Here, Royal visitors photographed while they were being shown round the Fertilizer Factory and Coke Oven Plant at Sindri, in December, 1955.

*In 1998,
Data sent from the Galileo spacecraft indicates that Jupiter's moon Europa has a liquid ocean under a thick crust of ice.The surface of Europa is frozen, covered with a layer of ice, but scientists think there is an ocean beneath the surface. The icy surface also makes the moon one of the most reflective in the solar system.

Raj Kumar, is a former Indian track and field athlete. He won the bronze medal in 5000 meters in 1982 Asian Games and the silver medal in the event at the 1983 Asian Championships in Athletics. He is a former national record holder in 5000 meters with a time of 13.46.4 minutes.

*In 1939,
U. C. Chaturvedi    ,    
was an Indian virologist, immunologist, medical microbiologist, CSIR Emeritus Scientist and a former chairman of the Bharat Immunologicals and Biologicals Corporation.The founder head of the department of microbiology at King George's Medical University, he is known for his studies on Dengue virus infection. Chaturvedi is an elected fellow of all the three major Indian science academies viz. Indian Academy of Sciences, National Academy of Sciences, India and the Indian National Science Academy as well as the Royal College of Pathologists and National Academy of Medical Sciences.

Chandra Kumar Agarwala, an eminent poet, writer, and journalist from Assam. He was the first editor and financer of the Jonaki magazine. Agarwala, along with his friend Lakshminath and Hemchandra, are known as “Trimurti of Assamese literature” for their remarkable contribution to the very beginning of modern Assamese literature.

*In 1949,
Sarojini Naidu, popularly known as the Nightingale of India, was an Indian political activist and poet who played a significant role in India’s struggle for independence from colonial rule. She also became the first woman governor of an Indian state.
