*In 1953
Watson and Crick discover chemical structure of DNA. Cambridge University scientists James D. Watson and Francis H.C. Crick announce that they have determined the double-helix structure of DNA, the molecule containing human genes.

*In 1928 – C. V. Raman discovered a novel phenomenon of light scattering, which they called “modified scattering,” but more famously known as the Raman effect. The day is celebrated by the Government of India as the National Science Day every year.

*In 1969,
Uppalapu Srinivas, an Indian mandolin player, music composer. He was also called “Mozart of Indian classical music”. In 1988, he was honoured with the Padma Shri, the fourth-highest civilian award, by the Government of India. He was also awarded the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 2009 given by Sangeet Natak Akademi. 

*In 1907,
Acharya Aryanandi, 
Uppalapu Srinivas (28 February 1969 – 19 September 2014), an Indian mandolin player, music composer. He was also called “Mozart of Indian classical music”. In 1988, he was honoured with the Padma Shri, the fourth-highest civilian award, by the Government of India. He was also awarded the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 2009 given by Sangeet Natak Akademi.

*In1963,
Rajendra Prasad, the first President of India. A lawyer by profession, he joined Indian National Congress during the freedom movement and became a major leader. He was imprisoned by British government during the Salt Satyagraha and Quit India movement. He was also elected as the president of the Constituent Assembly of India.He is the only president who has been elected to the office twice.

*In 1884,
Veer Surendra Sai, was a great Indian freedom fighter and revolutionary. Surendra Sai and his associates resisted the British and protected a large part of Western Odisha region from the British rule. Surendra Sai died in Asirgarh Jail on 1884.

 

NATIONAL SCIENCE DAY

In 1986, the National Council for Science and Technology Communication (NCSTC) asked the Government of India to designate 28 February as National Science Day which the then Govt. of India accepted and declared the day as National Science Day in 1986. The first National Science Day was celebrated on February 28, 1987.
