*In 1910,
Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi,
was an Indian lawyer, anti-colonial nationalist and political ethicist  who employed nonviolent resistance to lead the successful campaign for India's independence from British rule, and to later inspire movements for civil rights and freedom across the world. The honorific Mahātmā (Sanskrit: "great-souled", "venerable"), first applied to him in 1914 in South Africa, is now used throughout the world.

*In 1966,
AS-201 (or SA-201),
was the first uncrewed test flight of an entire production Block I Apollo command and service module and the Saturn IB launch vehicle. The spacecraft consisted of the second Block I command module and the first Block I service module. The suborbital flight was a partially successful demonstration of the service propulsion system and the reaction control systems of both modules, and successfully demonstrated the capability of the command module's heat shield to survive re-entry from low Earth orbit.

Ghulam Muhammad Ali Kha, fifth Prince of Arcot and ruled from 1903 to 1952.Ghulam Muhammad Ali Khan was honoured with the title of "Khan Bahadur" on 22 June 1897. He was made a Knight Commander of the Order of the Indian Empire on 1 January 1909. This was upgraded to a GCIE in 1917. He was allowed to use the honorific "His Highness" from 1935 onwards. He was also permitted to have a detachment of bodyguards.

*In 1887,
Birth anniversary of Sir Benegal Narsingh Rao who was an eminent lawyer and political leader. He had a key role in drafting the Constitution of India. He also represented India to the United Nations Security Council from 1950 to 1952. He also helped to draft the constitutions of Burma in 1947.

*In 1887,
Anandi Gopal Joshi 
was one of the first Indian female doctors of western medicine alongside Kadambini Ganguly. She was the first woman from the erstwhile Bombay presidency of India to study and graduate with a two-year degree in western medicine in the United States.She was also referred to as Anandibai Joshi and Anandi Gopal Joshi (where Gopal came from Gopalrao, her husband's first name).

*In 1966,
Vinayak Damodar Savarkar was a politician as well as an author and playwright. Savarkar established the term Hindutva to create a collective ‘Indian’ identity. Savarkar was also an atheist who disapproved of orthodox Hindu belief. He also authored ‘The Indian War of Independence’ about 1857 rebellion.  The airport at Andaman and Nicobar has been named Veer Savarkar International Airport. Indian Government conferred India’s highest civilian award, Bharat Ratna, to him.
