*In 1952, 
Indian General elections Indian National Congress (INC) won a landslide victory under the leadership of Jawaharlal Nehru wherein the INC won 364 of the 489 seats. This was more than four times as many votes as the second-largest party. Jawaharlal Nehru also became the first democratically elected Prime Minister of the country.

*In 1972,
It was on 21st January 1972 that Manipur, Meghalaya, and Tripura under the North-Eastern Areas Act. This was almost after 24 years after India received independence. Till then Manipur and Tripura were Union Territories whereas  Meghalaya was a part of Assam.

Manchanahalli Rangaswamy Satyanarayana Rao, 
known by the abbreviation M. R. S. Rao, is an Indian scientist, born on 21 January 1948 at Mysore, India. He has been awarded the fourth highest civilian award Padma Shri in Science and Engineering category (year 2010) by the Government of India. He was the President of Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research (JNCASR), Bangalore, India (2003-2013).

*In 1908,
Vaikom Muhammad Basheer,
also known as Beypore Sulthan, was a writer, humanist, freedom fighter, novelist and short story writer, noted for his path-breaking, down-to-earth style of writing that made him equally popular among literary critics as well as the common man. His notable works include Balyakalasakhi, Shabdangal, Pathummayude Aadu, Mathilukal, Ntuppuppakkoranendarnnu, Janmadinam and Anargha Nimisham and the translations of his works into other languages have earned him worldwide acclaim. The Government of India awarded him the fourth highest civilian honor of the Padma Shri in 1982.

*In 1945,
Rash Behari Bose, 
was an Indian revolutionary leader against the British Raj. He was one of the key organisers of the Ghadar Mutiny and founded the First Indian National Army during World War 2, handing it over as the Indian National Army to Subhas Chandra Bose later.He also founded the Japanese branch of the Hindu Mahasabha, becoming its first president.

*In 1963,
Acharya Shivpujan Sahay, was a noted Hindi and Bhojpuri novelist, editor and prose writer. He contributed in pioneering modern trends in Hindi poetry, as well as in fiction. His texts "Mata ka Anchal" also printed in CBSE Book. In the text Mata ka Anchal, he has shown a wonderful bond with mother. He also conferred him with Padma Bhushan award by the Government of India.
